Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have been used for decades in sustainable farming systems to improve soils, control disease and promote plant growth.
Adding LAB to soil drenches promotes beneficial soil life, loosens the soil and helps prevent anaerobic conditions. It increases the solubility and bio-availability of fertilizers and compost applications, while reducing decomposition odours.
When used as a foliar spray, it has been shown to increase resilience against bacterial and fungal pathogens, including powdery mildew.
LAB can also be used to treat seeds before planting, improving germination, inoculating the seed with beneficial microbes, and deterring fungal problems, such as “damping off”.
When added to a compost bin, it acts as an accelerator and helps reduce odours during decomposition.
