This is a great condition Fostex E2 Stereo master recorder. Not to be confused with Fostex' more project studio stuff - this is a beast, and sounds great!
Great condition and fully functional. Used regularly.
These were the last R2R units produced by Fostex and are akin to the Tascam BR-20 from that era (and just as heavy!). Just as the Tascams were, most of these were used by radio, "rode hard and put away wet". This unit does not look like it suffered that same life and, considering the included Fostex sequencer (not pictured; works great as a wired remote control), it looks like it spent its life in the studio instead.
Similarities with the Tascam BR-20:
- very robust transport
- ball bearings on the tape path
- pitch function
-cueing
-digital tape meter counter
-memory, auto play, RTZ, loop play and and locate functions
- dump edit
- 7.5 and 15ips
Things that are *better* than a BR-20
- remote control (via sequencer. ; wired)
- defeatabe lifters for cueing during fast wind
- cue track
- screw on large reel adapters (much better)
*and the absolute best thing that this can do but a BR-20 won't*:
- two bias settings can be calibrated and selected with a tamper proof switch so you can calibrate for two different tape formulations!
