Description

Ginger Esquire Deluxe. Handmade guitar from Cornwall Prince Edward Island. This guitar is made by the seller. Specifically, it is not from parts nor from a kit, but made from raw boards. Why Esquire Deluxe? It's got features from both Fender's Esquire and Telecaster Deluxe (and Telecaster Custom for that matter). Given it's a single pickup Telecaster with a switch no one understands places it in the Esquire camp, whereas the pickup is a (rather hot) humbucker and Deluxes have those. The headstock is a combination of both the CBS era 'Big head Stat' and a Traditional Telecaster. Oh yeah, and the body is double-bound, like a 60s Telecaster Custom. Anyway, specifics about the guitar. Very premium fittings throughout. Center joined African Mahogany body, double bound (as mentioned) with wavy-grain celluloid nitrate binding, African Mahogany neck with Gaboon Ebony fingerboard. 25.5" scale, 12-inch radius. The same binding is used on the neck. Dunlop 6105 frets with Gibson style fretcap binding on the fingerboard. The profile of this neck is a deep, hard, vintage vee. Very different at first but gets more and more comfortable as you play it, particularly for those of you who play with a 'thumb-wrap' technique. Gotoh Relic SD90 tuning machines, Rio Grande Twangbucker pickup, Rio Grande Stainless Steel bridge, Callaham stainless steel control plate, neck plate and heavy knurled flat top knobs. All hardware has been chemically and thermally aged at Rio Grande Pickups in Texas. CRL switch, and CTS push/pull control pots, all full cloth wiring. This guitar is capable of delivering an astonishing array of tones. Everything from molten metal to Bakersfield Telecaster spank. On top of the 'Mike Eldred modified Esquire switching', there are two push-pull pots. These control the switching of the coils in the pickup. Both knobs down - Series humbucker. But keep in mind, this is two mean-as-hell Telecaster bridge pickups making up the humbucker. It's like a great Les Paul bridge tone with extra cut. Both knobs up - Parallel humbucker. Imagine having Tele bridge pickups in the bridge and middle positions of your Strat and dialing up the second position on your five-way switch - still humbucking but not as searing as the coils in series mode, but a killer classic rock, blues or country tone - and no hum. Volume knob up with tone knob down - true single coil, with humbuckers its sometimes called coil-tapped. It's specifically turning one coil off for more traditional Telecaster tones. In this setting the coil closest to the neck is engaged. Volume knob down and tone knob up - true single coil. This time instead of being the neck forward coil, it's the coil closer to the bridge. The position of the coil is slightly closer than that of a typical Telecaster and has even more edge and cut. This is one of the first few instruments that I built. There are signs of play wear and a few points where the nitro cellulose finish was polished through but is a great guitar that sounds fantastic, is extremely well balanced and obviously incredibly unique. I'm located in Cornwall. PE. Shipping/local pickup/meetings within reasonable distance are fair game. I will always be willing to listen to reasonable trade offers.
