This Fernandes GC35 was hand made by master luthier Kazuo Toshi (aka Kazuo Ichiyanagi).
Kazuo Toshi developed a special wood treatment technique that enhances wood's ability to vibrate by 40%. Through this chemical process, wood treated with formaldehyde forms stronger bonds between its cells compared to untreated wood. This specially treated wood is commercially known as "Super Wood".
Today, Kazuo Ichiyanagi is one of the highly regarded luthiers in Japan. His custom built guitars range from $2000 to $5000.
In 1974, this guitar was priced at 35,000 yen, approximately equivalent to six months' salary for a Japanese college graduate at the time. It features a solid spruce top with a cashew French polish finish. The back and sides are either solid wood or a high-quality rosewood laminate.
Amazing value for money.
Condition
This instrument is in very good used condition with multiple dings and scratches.
The bottom seems to have had a minor repair of the binding (see on the photo)
There is a hairline crack in the finish in the middle of the lower bout. It has been sealed by a professional luthier. Very hard to see on the photos. The back is in excellent shape.
