General information about infrared saunas.
Many customers visit our shop with a list of questions after researching many hours on internet. I hope that you will not need research anything after reading this article written by me.
I went to China two times and visited 13 sauna related factories. Let’s talk about every parts of the sauna:
The heater: no matter where the sauna is made, all of the heaters are made in China. There are mainly ceramic heater and carbon fibre heater plus mica heater.
Ceramic heater: this is the least expensive heater; the life span is relatively short. I sold only 9 pcs of ceramic heaters as parts during 4 years working in Blackstone Saunas. It has the highest EMF reading, but many customers called me and said they are very happy with their ceramic heater sauna.
Mica heater: this heater can be broken by two fingers. Since it is installed in the wood frame with a layer of non woven fabric on it, many customers do not care what is in the frame. There are carbon fibre wires running through the mica panels to generate heat and far infrared wave. There are generally 2 qualities for this panel, one is the EMF between 10—170, one is the EMF less than 3. This mica heater price is about 20-50% cheaper than carbon fibre heater.
Carbon fibre heater: this use carbon powder to print on a base. there are about seven factories in China who can produce this heater. Among them, 2 of them only can produce 220 V heater, 5 of them are able to produce 120V input heaters. One factory went bankruptcy in 2016 because some of their panels caught fire. The heating panel price from these 7 suppliers are very different.
The control system: every sauna factory uses different control system even if they all bought from the same control box supplier. The more complicated function on the system, the more possibility to be broken. Many sauna companies try to made it touch screen or with more functions in order to sell it more expensive
The radio and speaker: this quality are very reliable, they usually last long time.
The wood: hemlock is the most popular wood, the frame in the wall and on the roof are always not hemlock. Cedar is more expensive, the thickness of the hemlock is usually minimum 6 mm.
The glue: all of the pre made sauna use water based glue. I have seen some customer who do not want to see any glue in the sauna, we can custom made such sauna for you, but it is more expensive.
The door: all of them are using tempered glass door. the quality is really stable. We have a customer who wrote bad comments on our google review about the door which broken by itself. My research result is: 0.1-0.3% tempered glass may be broken by itself after several years’ usage.
About EMF and ELF: this is under debate, no one can prove that it is very harmful, but certain statistics shows that it is not good. We have saunas now with EMF reading less than 0.03.
About near infrared saunas: we supply near infrared heaters if you require. But 99% of the infrared saunas in the market are far infrared saunas. Some customers told me it is harmful to have near infrared heaters. One customer come yesterday and he only want near infrared heaters, the answer is uncertain now on google.
