Planning a road trip in early May from Vancouver Island up north to Kamloops/ Quesnel/Chetwynd area, and hoping to look at a few prospective therapy horses/ponies while in those areas.
1) Looking for a sturdy draft or draft cross horse in the 16-18 HH range with a very mellow temperament. Looking for something bombproof that we can take to the local fairs for vaulting demos and that is easy to handle on the ground. Doesn't need a ton of miles under saddle as long as it is super safe and has lots of handling, going out and about etc. Would be used for walk/trot vaulting, doesn't need to canter but if it does it's a bonus. No previous vaulting experience necessary, but should enjoy being around people/kids.
2) Looking for a pony that is: Between 13.2-15.HH. 10-18 years old. MUST be quiet and safe enough to take our most fragile riders who require a leader and two side-walkers, and be patient and well-schooled enough to safely trot around the track with a beginner rider off lead. Must have plenty of experience/miles in the ring. Bonus if he/she can also canter and do lunge-line lessons. MUST be sound enough to be comfortable doing multiple therapy lessons per week, but we are very careful not to overwork our horses, and some minor maintenance OK. Most importantly pony MUST enjoy working with lots of different people and being in a busy environment, being loved on by lots of children, volunteers and staff.
Pony/horse will have a long-term home with us in a knowledgeable, experienced establishment. Can provide references.
If you have something that sounds suitable PM me, I'd like to line up a few to meet while we're on the mainland.
