Taxco Mexico Sterling Silver Ring Tiger’s Eye & Black Onyx 7.5

  • Jewellery Type

This very unusual and modern-looking ring was bought in Taxco in 1977. The six pieces of inset stone are tiger’s eye and black onyx. The hallmarks stamped inside the ring include Mexico, 925 and the maker’s mark with the initials ON. From 1948 to 1980, the Mexican government introduced a national system of hallmarking known now as the “Eagle Assay mark” system to control the quality and taxing of silver. The Eagle marks were supposed to guarantee that a piece of silver was at least of sterling quality. Silversmiths were assigned an eagle mark with a specific number which may indicate the location or the identity of the maker. This ring bears the #3 for Taxco. It measures 1 ½ “ (4 cm) long x ½ “ (1.5 cm) wide and weighs 11 gm. The ring is size 7.5. It is lightly worn and is in very good condition.
