Description

Kunekune pigs for sale. 10 month old gilts, 18 month old gilts, ready for breeding and possibly a proven sow if interested. I also have a couple of boars available ranging from 10 months to 2 years old. Breeding stock, Pet, or Pasture Pork. Kunekunes are the only breed of pig that truly thrives on grass/pasture. Most characteristic of the Kunekune is its short, upturned snout, making them suitable for grazing. They tend not to root and damage your lawn or pasture, with exception to taproot weeds. They love dandelions and will eventually rid your pasture of them. Their primary feed is grass in the summer/hay in the winter. These Medium sized, docile pigs are so easy to handle, perfect for the small hobby farmer, families with young children, homesteader or senior farmers looking to stay on the farm but finding larger livestock too intimidating. (Great for the grandkids!) They are very hardy and require minimal housing in the winter. Due to their docility, they have little desire to test fencing and roam which makes them a breed suitable for the first time pig owner. They have incredibly sweet temperaments. Kunekunes have a personality very different from “commercial” pigs and other breeds of swine. They are very social, friendly and very intelligent animals. They appreciate human contact, are affectionate, and will do anything for food and a good scratch. These pigs LOVE human company and will lay there as long as you are willing to scratch their belly. They make wonderful pets for the whole family. Kunekune pigs are a rare but very special and exciting heritage breed, originating in New Zealand. Pronounced Cooney Cooney, their name means fat and round, and are considered a hairy pig. They come in many different colours and variations of black, white, ginger, brown and cream. The majority of them have tassels that hang off their lower jaw called a wattle. They fit perfectly in a variety of agriculture environments - from Pets, Breeding Stock, Hobby Farms, Sustainable Agriculture/Grass fed pork, Orchards, Petting Zoos, Therapy programs, Showing and so much more! Their laid back, docile personalities along with their hardiness make them perfect for first time pig owners. High intelligence makes them easily trained as well. They get along well with other animals and other animals seem to accept them easily. They are a wonderful addition to any farm or acreage. All our Breeding Stock are DNA tested and Registered (c/w pedigrees) with AKKPS. Several bloodlines to choose from Boris, Ru, Andrew Wilson’s Gina, Tapeka, Trish, Jenny De wormed and up to date on all vaccines.
