JOB DESCRIPTION: CASEWORKER Responsible to: Executive Director
Qualifications: Two year post-secondary Diploma in a related field/Degree preferred (Social or Human Services, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Family Studies)
Salary: $18-20 per hour based on experience
Hours: 30 hours per week ongoing. Additional 5 hours per week for the period of September 2018 – June 2019 totaling 35 hours per week.
The incumbent will provide casework management in accordance with the National Standards set out by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. S/he will be responsible for matching volunteer mentors with children and youth, and to monitor those matches to ensure the healthy development of the relationships.
The Caseworker will work within the guidelines, policies and mission of the Agency and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.
accept and document application of potential clients (parent/guardian, child, youth, etc.) manage intake of children and youth including orientation, interviewing, screening etc. inform families of their acceptance. Inform families of the reasons for the denial of service or for the closing of an application or referral. contact schools or other involved social service agencies as appropriate for assessment input. conduct the Pre-Match training program with Mentees and parents/guardians. facilitate matches between mentor and mentees. Supervise matches accordance to National Standards, providing support and intervention as necessary. maintain case notes on all cases in accordance with the National Standards. facilitate match closure process for mentor, mentee and parent/guardian. provide regular reports to Executive Director, or special reports as requested. maintain strict confidentiality as outlined in agency Privacy and Confidentiality policy. ensure all mentees, parents/guardians and mentors are informed of any pertinent agency information such as group programs, activities, change of policy, change of address etc. perform administrative functions as required to manage caseload. make referrals to other agencies as required. liaise with schools, other youth service agencies, other community groups, clubs or the public in general as required. assist with program planning, events and agency activities as required. remain aware of federal and provincial privacy legislation and the agency’s privacy policies and practices.
