This position will support a department growing team with technical crop management raising greenhouse vegetable seedlings, leafy greens, & culinary herbs. Key Job Duties: • Department labour resource allocation through time & attendance software and proprietary business solutions. • Manage compliant IPM/Hygiene program including scouting, record keeping, and pest control distribution and pesticide application. • Support customer inquiries with application records and IPM/Hygiene strategy. • Manage Greenhouse Certification Program and lead audit events • Manage Propagation Growing Department Food Safety Requirements • Support team in achieving high degree of customer satisfaction through quality & uniformity • Support purchase requisition system for growing related supplies • Participate in a culture of continuous improvement through standardized reporting of key performance indicators and LEAN principles. • Crop registration record entry • Trouble shoot crop challenges and participate in root cause analysis • Pro-actively identify hygiene risks and support corrective protocol • Participate in development of digitization of scouting and quantitative crop registrations • Engage with Program Lead on enhancing culinary herb/leafy green catalogue • Respond to irrigation unit alarms & monitor functioning • Engage in manual/ebb & flood irrigation or instruct and supervise assistants • Monitor climate control mechanics on proper functioning - adjust and/or report • Report equipment failure or greenhouse damage to maintenance department • Make changes in set points when instructed and monitor climate • Engage with customers during visits in a professional and supportive manner • Learn from experienced mentors • Engage with 3rd party crop consultants • Participate in educational seminars and certification programs • Participate in computer skills assessment and training • Maintain a meticulously clean, tidy, and organized department and grounds. • Support operation & growing teams with semi annual clean-up events • Support fertilizer consumption records and weekly inventory count when required • Support irrigation room activities when required • Department flexibility may be required and position may be required to perform similar activities with training on various horticultural crops • Participate in team reporting of KPI’s Compliance: • Reliable participant in growing team responsibilities • Accurate and timely report & data submission • Adhere to all worksite safety, food safety, bio-security protocols and compliance standards. • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures as necessary to meet all compliance standards and ensure all appropriate documentation is completed and up to date. • Support a culture of tolerance and adhere to workplace bullying & harassment policy Skills/Knowledge/Prerequisites: • Horticultural experience including pesticide application certification • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively. • Intermediate skills with Computers, Windows operating system, Greenhouse climate systems, Microsoft Outlook, & Microsoft Excel Working Environment: • Schedule flexibility required for crop needs • Mainly greenhouse, part office, & occasional travel • Rotational weekend and holiday coverage • Administrative work and hands on manual labor Please Email your resume to resumes@houwelings.com.
