Seasonal - leak detection technician
- PipeTech Solutions Inc.
- Job Type
This is a unique and interesting, seasonal role from May to October each year for someone that enjoys a challenge on every service call each day, and can readily problem solve multi-faceted situations.
A previous employee once remarked that "every day's an adventure at PipeTech!". That still holds true as we go about detecting leaks in swimming pools, along with other inspection needs using a range of sophisticated equipment and good sense in different circumstances. You'll always be challenged and learning.
We are almost always outside, except when it's raining. We generally work 2-3 days weekly in late May/ early June and late September/early October, with 5/6+ days being the norm in the busy summer as the service calls ebb and flow with the pool season.
This requires flexibility to adjust one's schedule to match the variable needs of the role from late spring to late fall. That is, the work hours on any particular calendar date vary depending upon the requirements of each day and site location(s) within London and the surrounding area. To some extent our schedule can adapt for other, known and scheduled demands that your individual circumstances require.
This would be an ideal role for a healthy, active, agile person that is semi-retired, a post-secondary student, or those with other professional or personal responsibilities that also require your attention.
You must have initiative and a willingness to work to demanding standards - every day and every minute. Inquisitiveness, adaptability and an analytical approach to problem solving are great assets. So too would be recent familiarity with operation and service of a swimming pool.
Working alongside the owner, you will typically ferry tools and equipment from the trailer into customers' swimming pools in their back yards, then perform a multitude of challenging investigative inspection tasks without regard to a fixed time each day. We leave when the problems have been properly identified for the customer, or the sun goes down.
This requires an intelligent, always thinking individual with a good mechanical sense about them, along with fine interpersonal skills. Excellent written and oral fluency in English is a must. Our environment and conduct is always professional and thorough, along with being smoking and vaping free.
The strictly defined selection process for this role starting at $18/hour, requires sending a written response on how and why you might be interested in this seasonal position from approximately May to October each year, along with any other pertinent information you feel might be helpful in the selection process. Failure to follow these guidelines may lead to your application not receiving full consideration.
A telephone interview may follow, then a personal meeting and a short 2-3 day paid, onsite field trial, as is appropriate in determining whether the role and our relationship is a good fit for both parties.
