Price reduced - here is some real living history entitled the Home Guard Training Manual which was based on British and American military instruction manuals of the day. It was prepared by Major John Langdon-Davies. He was a British author, journalist, and war correspondent during the Spanish Civil War and the Russo-Finnish war. As a result, of his experiences in Spain, he founded the Foster Parents' Plan. He was the author of over 60 books on military, scientific, historical and Spanish matters. Langdon-Davies was Commandant of the Burwash Fieldcraft School. After the war he continued writing about European politics. His last book, Spain, was published in the year of his death in 1971. This book was immensely popular in its day with over 100,000 copies being sold across three continents. The problem today is that many of these copies were used up by dedicated home guard participants and are now long gone. Few copies in near new condition survive. The one offered here is nearly brand new with no smells, torn pages or dog eared covers like you might find in second hand book stores or on ebay. This copy has been in our family since WWII and you will appreciate its fine condition and the care that it has received. The book contains 186 small print pages in battle dress pocket size format that outlines just about everything a citizen needs to know to function as a fighting soldier. Chapters on field-craft and guerrilla warfare fighting are as relevant today as they were in the 1940’s at a time when England was being brought to her knees by successful axis bombing. Other chapters cover Observation, Night Training, Anti-aircraft fighting, and Gas Warfare. There are several illustrations and charts in the text. It has the original canvas brown cloth wrappers, upper wrapper and back-strip lettered in black, radial corners, covers are in near new condition in a well preserved, bright, clean copy. It has the most interesting trade advertisements on front and rear end papers for military products. This the fifth edition released in February 1942.
