Volunteer Legal Assistant

Volunteer Legal Assistant Justice advocates is a free (pro-bono) civilian initiated legal service that provides support and assistance to individuals who have suffered an injustice or are involved in a dispute. Ideal qualities for a volunteer is someone who has an interest in helping victims of injustices. They should be compassionate and have passion for justice and the law, and want to help obtain accountability of wrong doers. This work could be a good opportunity for foreign-trained lawyers/law students who want to gain Canadian legal experience, law students/lawyers interested in doing pro-bono work or taking on contingency/part contingency-based cases or other retainer arrangements, university students or high school students with interest in law-related work, and paralegals or law clerks. And we are also happy to take on placements if they meet programs qualifications Helpful skills include typing, computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Word, composing PDF files, emails, and internet searches. Duties would include research, locating statutes, case law, legislation, and finding relevant legal articles. Thank you for your interest.
