20 seeds. Hollyhocks have been grown in gardens for centuries, their tall spikes of satiny, crepe-textured flowers making a fine display in mid-summer. Best at the back of a sunny border, with something in front to hide their bare lower stems. This tall strain "Chaters Double White" features lovely fluffy double flowers in shades of white and ivory. Plants usually act as short-lived perennials, but will re-seed themselves for many years! Blooms Spring through Summer Cold Tolerant, Drought Tolerant, Outdoor Deer, Rabbit resistance Attracts Bees, Attracts Butterflies, Attracts Hummingbirds, Attracts Pollinators, Easy to Grow & Maintain. ~ HOW TO GROW ~ Hollyhock seeds need light to germinate, so if you plant them too deeply, they won't sprout. When you sow hollyhock you could soak the seed in warm water first for 12 hours and then lay it on the top of the soil to let the seed get light, cover lightly. Starting outdoors: Plant seeds in full sun in ordinary well-drain garden soil in spring after danger of frost is past or in fall, about 2 months before the first fall frost. Poke seeds into well-worked soil about sow at just ¼ inch deep or less, 6 to 8 inches apart. Keep moist until germination in 7 to 14 days. Starting indoors: Start seeds indoors about 8 weeks before last expected frost date. Sow 2 inches apart and sow at just ¼ inch deep or less in flats or individual containers of seed starting mix. Provide a strong light source and keep mix evenly moist to await germination in 7 to 14 days. When seedlings are 3 to 4 inches tall, Harden off to outdoor conditions, then transplant into the garden. * Charters Double Hollyhock may bloom the first year from seed if planted early in spring. Planted later, it will bloom the following summer. Care Tip: After blossoms fade, cut off the spent flower stalks just above the ground.
