The 2012 Multistrada Pike's Peak edition was the flagship of the Ducati lineup when it was released. The Pike's Peak hill climb takes place near Colorado Springs, and is a 20 kilometer, multi-terrain (mud to pavement) event that starts at 2900 meters of elevation and finishes at 4300. It is an event for only the most durable of bikes and the most daring of riders. When Greg Tracy wanted to enter a Ducati Multistrada in the 2010 race, he was virtually laughed out of the registration tent. He didn't just compete, he won it. To celebrate this most unexpected racing victory, Ducati delivered the ''Pike's Peak'' edition of the Multistrada for 2012. Featuring the same 1200cc Testastretta engine as the 1198 Superbike, the Diavel and other Multistradas, Ducati added a bunch of carbon fiber and suspension technology to set this bike apart. While electronic suspension is fairly commonplace now, Ducati was doing this ten years ago, and this is an Ohlins system, front and rear. The superbike-derived engine produces over 150hp in the Multistrada state of tune, and the whole package weighs 423 lbs, dry. This is a bit of an unusual Pike's Peak model, as it has all the carbon fiber of the sport edition, but a previous owner has added the ''touring'' accoutrements of color matched hard luggage, center stand and heated grips. All Multistradas feature Ride by Wire throttle, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Stability control, ABS, a slipper clutch and keyless ignition.
