Borrani Wire Wheels – 15" X 6" 72 Spoke Wheels with Rechromed Three-Eared Spinners
This is a used set of very rare genuine period Route Borrani Milano aluminum rimmed wire wheels part number RW 3740. This part number indicates they were originally designed for use on a first generation Lotus Elite built from 1957 to 1963. The rims themselves were manufactured in June of 1967.
With 42 mm hub splines these will work on many other British Cars from this era and were last used on an Austin Healey 3000. The three-eared knock-offs have been rechromed and are in excellent condition. Note these are fine thread knock-offs.
Three of the rims run true with no run out noted. One has a very slight run out, about 1/16th of an inch. There are also some cosmetic issues. The aluminum rims would benefit from a polish. The chrome centre hubs and spokes do have surface rust.
The rims are useable as they are if the cosmetic condition does not bother you. Otherwise they are ideal candidates for restoration. These can still be bought new from Borrani, but at a cost of about $12,000 Canadian for a set of four. New knock-off spinners will cost about $1,700 more for a set of 4.
