Description
If you are looking for an amazing go-anywhere motorcycle with the highest reliability and durability, read about my Suzuki V-Strom 1000 here.
I had intended to ride the V-Strom up the Dempster Highway with a colleague and see the Arctic Ocean. Unfortunately, I had an industrial accident and can’t make a trip like that in the near future. So I am offering this excellent motorcycle to any rider that want a motorcycle that will take them anywhere.
Being a 1000cc engine, it has lots of power for any type of riding, including well in excess of the speed limits anywhere. I have used it for riding in gravel pits, backroads and cruising back and forth to Toronto on the 401. Being a 90° V-twin engine, it is very smooth and produce little vibration making driving at any speed pleasant. Also, the engine doesn't need a balancer, keeping the engine simple and reliable. It has a 6 speed transmission and on the highway, the overdrive gear keeps engine RPM low. The benefit to this is my fuel consumption ranges between 61~68 miles per gallon. With a 22 litre fuel tank, I have a long distance range. It only requires regular fuel, so it is quite economical to operate. The engine does not appear to consume oil, so you have no worries there. I chose this year and model because I did not want ABS. The problem with ABS is it adds complexity and can make riding on loose traction conditions unpredictable and difficult, so simple is best.
I’ve only had to do regular maintenance on the V-Strom. About 500 kilometers ago, I changed the oil, oil filter and air filter. I also upgraded the spark plugs to the Iridium type. The hydraulic brakes and clutch system have had a complete flush with high quality DOT 4 brake fluid at the start of the season. There was no problem; it is just one of the things I do to keep my motorcycles in excellent condition. The O’ring chain is in great condition as well as the sprockets. I’m kind of heavy at almost 300 pound and find the suspension works comfortably at medium settings. In fact the adventure type suspension has more travel and better dampening than most touring bike. That is the main reason that I have been resisting to sell the bike as few are better. I don’t believe there are any maintenance or outstanding service issues for the bike. It should pass a safety check with no problem. I can put the V-Strom on my lift and we can review all the items on the safety check so you can be sure of the condition of the motorcycle. The tires are a combination of road and adventure type with lots of tread on them. I’ve had a close look at the bike and can’t find any signs of it being dropped. All the plastic parts are unbroken and in great condition with no fading. There are no dents in the gas tank and no rust. I’ve always had the bike in my shop when not riding and I think the previous owners did the same, so you will not find corrosion on the bike.
The V-Strom is in stock condition with the engine, chassis and exhaust, so insurance companies will not hassle you for a modified vehicle and offer you a great rate. For the last few years, I’ve been paying $370 a year for the V-Strom 1000. I did put on a taller Givi touring windshield and at the lowest position, it has provided fantastic protection from wind, rain and bugs. It is adjustable and can be raised a couple of inches if you sit tall in the saddle and need more protection. It is very clear with no scratches or cracks. There is an accessory outlet on the dash so you can plug in your GPS, phone or heated jacket. It comes with the complete Givi travel set. So you get 2 large saddlebags and a travel trunk that has an integrated backrest to offer extra comfort for a passenger. With the long travel suspension and engine power; you should hardly notice any companion you take with you. I installed 2 inch handlebar risers to position the handlebars better to suit me for touring and you can have them with the motorcycle. It has an AGM battery and starts the bike with no problem. There is nothing out of the ordinary with operation of the motorcycle, just treat it as brand new. You receive 2 sets of keys for the V-Strom, saddlebags and trunk. The bike still has the original factory tool kit and is located under the seat.
The V-Strom is registered in my name as a fit motorcycle and is plated and insured. I have the Used Vehicle Information Package and can give that to you with the sale of the motorcycle, saving $20. Since it is registered in “FIT” condition, you can get a temporary permit at Service Ontario and legally ride the bike home or to a safety check station. I deal in cash with the sale of the motorcycle, so no bitcoin, e-transfer, cheque or promise. I think I have set a fair price and am taking a loss over what I paid for it, to sell it before Christmas. If you want to make a counter offer, you will have to do that in person when you come to review the motorcycle in Belleville. I have the original owner’s manual to give with the sale. If you like, I can also give you a digital copy of the factory service manual if you want do know all about the V-Strom and do your own maintenance.
