Have you ever thought about cottaging in Costa Rica instead? Well here's an easy and affordable way to do it in style! My husband and I are expat Canadians who sold everything during Covid, and bought a little private hotel property in popular Playa Potrero in Costa Rica. We are strategically located between Flamingo Marina and Las Catalinas with Playa Penca being our favourite hidden (often deserted) beach. Much of our cottage time was spent on the shores of Muskoka and Turkey Point, fishing, BBQing and enjoying the water with family and friends. Prices for cottage rentals have gotten quite high over the years so we are thrilled to open our doors to fellow cottagers throughout the upcoming summer and fall season. About the area: Chorotega House, named after the indigenous tribe of the area, is located in popular and safe expat neighbourhood of Surfside Potrero. The new Flamingo Marina in Guanacaste region at the south end of our bay. And Las Catalinas is just to the north of us. Potrero/Flamingo area is popular for being home to some of the top rated beaches in Costa Rica (such as Flamingo and Penca) and for being a centralized location for easy day-tripping! The home is a 5 min stroll to Playa Potrero past the shops, market and restaurants. At this beach is Hemmingway's where they have a famous sunset cocktail restaurant, daily yoga classes, snorkel gear rentals, sailing lessons, ocean kayaks, SUP boards, and a scuba diving centre. Just at the other end of our bay is the marina where you can stroll the high-end shops, a gym with multiple daily classes of every kind, and more restaurants. From the marina you can go ocean fishing, sailing, catamaran cruising and snorkelling. This area has it all, without being over crowded with tourists, and it's only 45 minutes from Liberia Airport. About the house: This solid bungalow called Casa Chorotega, named after the indigenous tribe of the area, is fully equipped and can accommodate 6 people comfortably. There is a comfortable king size bed, with private ensuite bathroom, boasting a cool adobe style handcrafted in-ground solid concrete soaker tub. There is also a second bath room for a bedroom with 2 single beds, and a third bedroom with an ultra comfortable, and splitable king size bed for flexible configurations. The kitchen backsplash is adorned with trendy handcrafted encaustic tiles from Nicaragua, made in the same way as they did it over 100 years ago. The living area is decorated with “sweated” antique indigenous masks that were worn in ceremony many years ago, and some hunting artifacts from a lesser known tribe called the Maleku. This is truly an authentic jungle lux experience. This villa is located on the grounds of our Tulum style property. While the 3 bedroom villa is the main offering, I would be open to renting other suites or Safari tents if you wanted to bring more family and friends.
