Volunteer drivers with Meals on Wheels program deliver hot and nutritious meals to seniors and/or adults with disabilities who are unable to prepare their own meals. We are currently experiencing a volunteer shortage.
Meals are delivered Monday - Friday over the lunch hour (between 11:00am - 1pm). Each route takes approximately 60 -90 minutes to complete and encompasses to 7 - 12 homes. Many of our clients live alone and perhaps as important as getting a hot meal is the need to see a smiling face and to receive some words of kindness and friendship. Mileage reimbursement is available. Flexible Time commitment. We are looking for volunteers to fill on occasional basis and when we have last minute cancellations. Meals are picked up from three different locations: Breslau MOW office (61 Woolwich Street North); Family and Children Services (65 Hansen Avenue, Kitchener) & Hazelglen Alliance Church (45 Hazelglen Dr., Kitchener).
Volunteer drivers must have access to a vehicle, a valid driver's license, and minimum $1 million in liability car insurance. In-car training with a staff member is provided before volunteers are asked to deliver on their own. If you are interested, you may apply online at www.communitysupportconnections.org, under Volunteer Tab. For more information, please call 519-772-8787.
